We've been around since 1997, and our customers have come to expect us to be an outlet for fun, freedom and creativity. We support freedom of choice and challenging the status quo and we encourage everyone to keep it real. Plus we’re always down for a good time!

We asked Mark, our passionate Owner & Director for a reflection of his last 25 years.

“When I opened Cosmic Corner on March 10th, 1997, I didn't plan on much. Maybe a few months of trading, then up to the ski field. It wasn't much of a ski season that year, and the next thing I knew, I was still trading the following summer.

I could never have expected it to become what it is today; a subverted and alternative cultural institution throughout Ōtautahi & Aotearoa. But here we are! 25 years later, fifteen stores nationwide, with a special crew of people who have helped us thrive, adapt and grow over the years.

What started as Cosmic Corner, a tiny corner funk store that called Christchurch's High Street home, has grown into a thriving business that spans across New Zealand. We've had some great times along the way but what makes me most proud is knowing that the family who work here are truly special, kind, hardworking, and funny, with talents in so many ways. And they haven't just helped grow Cosmic to what it is; they've helped me develop as an individual by sharing their stories, teaching me more about life and people than I could have imagined when I opened those doors 25 years ago.

To all our customers who have been there from the start, to the customers who have just found us. The people who have partied, played in our stores, worked all over the country and is the inspiration and core of Cosmic, thank you all for taking this journey with us.
