- A colour change reaction will occur inside the ampoule when a sample is added.
- Compare the colour change to the provided colour chart to determine what may be inside the sample.
- If a different or no colour is shown, then the test is unable to determine what may be present in the sample - it may be harmless, or it may be dangerous. At this stage, the safest option is to discard the substance.
- Each ampoule contains a chemical reagent in silica gel - this is not always in liquid form.
